Interpretations of Class Rules

Interpretations of the „STANDART“ SPECIFICATIONS BOOK are released by ISSA upon request.

CASE 1
Question:
Is it allowed to install covers to the front and rear wheels?
Answer:
Yes, altough wheel covers are not mentioned in the current STANDART specifications as an authorized option, they are allowed if the rims can be scrutinized in an easy way (for example by using transparent covers, dismountable covers or by appropriate inspection openings).

CASE 2
Question:
Is it allowed to use rims and tires without inner tubes?
Answer:
No, tubes are considered as an integral part of the STANDART monotype yacht and therefore may not be removed from the landyacht.

CASE 3
Question:
Is it allowed to insert anything else other than one sail batten in a batten pocket.
Answer:
No, each sail pocket must contain only one batten of specified type, including end fittings.

CASE 4
Question:
Is it allowed to use a 10-spoke back rim with a roller bearing diameter of 47 mm which is available on the market?
Answer:
No, only the 10-spoke back rim with a roller bearing diameter of 42 mm, offered by the company “SEAGULL Chars à Voile“ is allowed. 

CASE 5
Question:
Is it allowed to carry ballast other than the sand bag ballast specified in the Class Rule?
Answer:
Yes, ballast is not restricted to sand bags and can be of other type. It is recommended to prevent any unintended movement of the ballast in the body. However, it is not allowed to install additional fittings/fixtures or to modify the landyacht for the purpose of ballast attachment.

CASE 6
Question:
Is it allowed to produce components of the landyacht in accordance with the drawings and specifications of the Class Rules or to purchase such components on the open market?
Answer:
No, only the small parts specified in the Class Rules (tires, inner tubes, wheels, pulleys, bearings, ropes, tell-tales, batten strainers, screws, rubber joints) can be provided on the open market. All other components must be manufactured and/or supplied by the company “SEAGULL Chars à Voile“.
